Your First Ghost Hunt
By Donna L. Marsh

It’s time. You’ve studied, you've prepared a basic ghost hunting kit, you’re excited, and you’re ready to go. Here are a few tips to help you get started.

Location
Choose a place that’s known to be haunted. If you don’t know of one in your area, then look for a place that has been the site of a great tragedy, unexpected death, site of great emotional energy, etc. Locations that seem to be haunted on a more frequent basis are murder sites, battlefields, schools, accident scenes, etc.

Research and Planning
Thoroughly research your chosen location, finding its history, any urban legends associated with it, etc. Then make a daytime visit to familiarize yourself with the area and take photos, which you can later use in your analysis.

Get Permission
Trespassing is a no-no! ALWAYS seek the required permissions prior to any outing.

Play It Safe
Tell someone where you’re going and when to expect your return. You’ll be poking around dark, lonely places, and while there’s usually no reason to fear the spirits, in this day and age you have to fear the living. Always play it safe by letting someone not with you know where you’ll be.

Go In Numbers
If there’s an experienced group in your area, see if you can join them. If not, always go in groups of two-five.

Finally
Follow standards and protocol and remember to be patient. Good things come to those who wait.

Good Luck!
